Ukrainian Conductor Sasha Yenkevych Appointed Conductor Fellow of NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra
By Logan MartellThe NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra has announced the appointment of Ukrainian conductor Sasha Yankevych to the role of Conductor Fellow.
In his new role, Yankevych will work under Chief Conductor Alan Gilbert, as well as lead projects with the NDR Youth Symphony Orchestra, and perform as part of the NDR Discover Music! program.
Currently, studying to receive his Masters degree at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, Yankevych trained at the Music Academy Bydgoszcz in Poland, as well as the Opera Studio of the Warsaw State Opera, and Opera Studio of the Zurich Opera House, before becoming assistant conductor of the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm where he has covered and assisted on productions of “Król Roger,” “La Bohème,” and “La Traviata.” In 2022-23, the Ukrainian conductor debuted at the Hamburg Staatsper in a production of “Die Fledermaus.” He also conducted at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Opera de St. Etienne, the Luglio Musicale Trapanese, and the Teatro Municipale di Piacenza, among others.
He is also the recipient of the 2nd prize and Orchestra Prize at the 2021 Arturo Toscanini Competition in Parma.
Throughout his career he has worked with such artists as Fabio Luisi, Andreas Homoki, Gianluca Capuano, Jonathan Darlington, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Alan Gilbert, Asmik Grigorian, Anne Sofie von Otter, Benjamin Bernheim, Malin Byström, and Adriana Gonzalez, among others.
