The Monteverdi Choir and Royal Concertgebouw will present Brahms‘ “Ein Deutsches Requiem” starting on Feb. 29, 2024.

The showcase will feature soprano Lenneke Ruiten and baritone Christian Gerhaher. Also on the program will be unaccompanied choir works including Heinrich Schutz’s “Selig sind die Toten, die in dem Herrn sterben” and “Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen,” as well as JC Bach’s “Der Gerechte, ob er gleich zu zeitlich stirbt.” Dinis Sousa conducts.

There will be additional performances on March 1 and 3, 2024.

Brahms’ “Requiem” premiered in 1868 at the Bremen Cathedral. Brahms would later revise the work, adding another movement; that version premiered in 1869 in Leipzig.
