Glyndebourne’s ‘The Merry Widow,’ Starring Danielle de Niese, Heads to BBC Four on Christmas

Glyndebourne is set to air its “The Merry Widow” on BBC Four this Christmas.
The production was filmed during the 2024 festival and stars Danielle de Niese in the title role. She is joined by conductor John Wilson in a production by Cal McCrystal.
“We’re delighted that audiences across the country will have this extra opportunity to experience Cal McCrystal’s new production of ‘The Merry Widow,’ which was a highlight of this year’s Glyndebourne Festival,” Stephen Langridge, Artistic Director of Glyndebourne, said in an official announcement. “Cal and his creative team delivered a dazzling staging, bursting with the exhilarating comedy and heart-on-sleeve emotion that can’t fail to put a smile on your face and a sentimental tear in your eye; perfect Christmas viewing!”
The director for television is Rhodri Huw and Executive Producer is Gemma Dixon. The Commissioning Editor for BBC Arts is Stephen James-Yeoman. The presentation kicks off at 8 p.m. on Dec. 25, 2024.
