The Accademia Verdiana del Teatro Regio di Parma is set to hold a course in New York from Jan. 13 to 17, 2025.

The course is supported by International Friends of Festival Verdi, Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò, and Fondazione Prof. Roberto Massini ETS and will allow 10 young singers who were selected to take intensive courses with a scholarship of $500. The week will explore the Verdi repertoire and the new interpretative practices. Students will have access to critical editions and masterclasses with Eleonora Buratto and Jonathan Friend. The week will end with a concert at the Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò on Jan. 22, 2025

The objective of the course comes from the Accademia Verdiana, which is the young artist program at the Teatro Regio di Parma.

In total, there were 43 applicants under 35 from teh United States, Canada, Latin America, Europa, and Asia.

In a statement, Francesco Izzo said, “The Verdi Academy crosses the Atlantic and, with the support and generosity of the Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò of New York University, one of the most prestigious American academic institutions for Italian culture, presents this intensive course that it wants to give to ten artists lyricists the possibility of enriching themselves in the educational and cultural fabric of the Teatro Regio, dedicating themselves to fully understanding Giuseppe Verdi’s writing and style through the use of critical editions and comparison with famous artists and professionals from around the world of the work. I sincerely thank the Teatro Regio which gave me the opportunity to direct this new project, the Training Office which imagined it and carried it forward with extraordinary ambition, competence and tenacity, as well as the International Friends of Festival Verdi and the Roberto Foundation Massini for their generosity, which among other things allows course participants free attendance and a scholarship.”
