San Francisco Opera has announced its 2024-25 season.

The season opens with the “Opera Ball.”

Performance Dates: Sept. 6, 2024

The first opera production is “Un Ballo in Maschera” starring Michael Fabiano, Lianna Haroutounian, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, Judit Kutasi, and Meigui Zhang. Eun Sun Kim conducts a production directed by Leo Muscato.

Performance Dates: Sept. 6-27, 2024

There will also be an “Opera in the Park” concert.

Performance Dates: Sept. 8, 2024

Next up is the West Coast premiere of “The Handmaid’s Tale” in a production by John Fulljames. Karen Kamensek conducts a cast starring Irene Roberts, Lindsay Ammann, Sarah Cambridge, John Relyea,  Simone McIntosh, and Christopher Oglesby, among others.

Performance Dates: Sept. 14- Oct. 1, 2024

Eun Sun Kim conducts Paul Curran’s production of “Tristan und Isolde” starring Simon O’Neill, Anja Kampe, Wolfgang Koch, Annika Schlicht, and Kwangchul Youn.

Performance Dates: Oct. 19-Nov. 5, 2024

There will be a special concert performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

Performance Dates: Oct. 26, 2024

“Carmen” returns in a production by Francesca Zambello. Eve Maud Hubeaux, Jonathan Tetelman, Christian Van Horn, and Louise Alder star. Benjamin Manis conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 13 – Dec. 1, 2024

“The Future is Now: Adler Fellows in Concert” will feature the 2024 class of Adler Fellows, including sopranos Georgiana Adams, Caroline Corrales, Arianna Rodriguez and Olivia Smith; mezzo-soprano Nikola Printz; tenor Thomas Kinch; baritone Samuel Kidd; bass-baritones Jongwon Han and James McCarthy; and pianists Julian Grabarek and Yang Lin.

Performance Dates: Nov. 15, 2024

San Francisco Opera Chorus will perform in concert under John Keene. The program includes works by Gounod, Händel, Verdi, Brahms, Reena Esmail, and Gwyneth Walker.

There will be a “Carmen Encounter” providing audiences with an immersive experience of one of the world’s most renowned operas.

Performance Dates: Nov. 21, 2024

“La Bohème” returns in 2025 with two separate casts. Pene Pati, Karen Chia-ling Ho, Lucas Meachem, and Andrea Carroll star in Cast A. Evan LeRoy Johnson, Nicole Car, Will Liverman, and Brittany Renee star in Cast B. Bogdan Talos stars as Colline in both casts. Ramón Tebar conducts John Caird’s production.

Performance Dates: June 3-21, 2025

“Idomeneo” stars Matthew Polenzani, Daniela Mack, Ying Fang, and Elza van den Heever star. Eun Sun Kim conducts Lindy Hume’s production.

Performance Dates: June 14 – 25, 2025

There will be a “Pride Concert” to close out the season.

Performance Dates: June 27, 2025

Finally, the company revealed that it was commissioning a new opera by Huang Ruo and David Henry Hwang entitled “The Monkey King.” The opera will take the stage in the fall of 2025.
