Opera in the Heights to Present ‘The Little Prince’
By David SalazarHouston’s “Opera in the Heights” is set to present Rachel Portman and Nicholas Wright’s “The Little Prince” this December.
The opera will be directed by Josh Shaw and conducted by Eiki Isomura and runs from Dec. 6 -15 at Lambert Hall. The opera stars Daniel Karash as the Prince, as well as Everett Baumgaten, Scott Clark, and Kellen Schrimper.
“Very much in the spirit of Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Nutcrackerand Menotti’s ‘Amahl and the Night Visitors,’ or perhaps even films by Pixar, this is a piece that can immediately capture the imagination of a child, while sinking into the hearts of adult audiences in a deeper way. And the music is simply gorgeous,” said artistic director Eiki Isomura in an official press release.
“I was instantly taken with this piece on my first hearing. The possibilities for creativity abound and change with every scene,” added Shaw. “When a story is seen through the eyes of a child, there are no limits. We too often forget that. ‘The Little Prince’ has already reminded me that the world doesn’t have to be the way we’ve always viewed it. I hope we can share that freedom with our audiences.”
